Meet the Artist: Linda Foote
For the Love of Glass...
I have always been fascinated with the
way light plays through and around colored glass. For over 30 years
I have been collecting pieces of art glass for their beauty and
ever-changing reflective quality. After seeing a demonstration at a
glass shop, I decided to try my hand at creating my own glass art. I
enrolled in a glass-blowing seminar and immediately fell in love
with the molten glass and freedom of creative expression. Wanting—or
rather needing—to continue creating with this medium, I turned to
lampwork. I love working with the wonderful array of colors and
experimenting with the many different techniques. Even after eight years
of lampworking it still thrills me when I pull a batch of beads from
the kiln and examine the small art forms. Glass
fusing is a more
recently acquired skill and allows me even greater choices in color,
texture, and size. Inspiration comes from many sources including the
seasonal changes in New Hampshire, color combinations in textiles
and clothing, and earthy colors of the southwest. Each bead and
glass creation is unique and my jewelry is designed to enhance the
special qualities of the beads I use.
And Beads with Soul...
I am a perfectionist and carry this into my beadmaking. Each
bead—from the small plain spacer to the large complex focal—is
created with deep concentration, consideration, and a little bit of
soul. My hope is that those who receive my beads find as much
enjoyment in them as I had creating each one.
Making connections…
These connections have been key in my development as a glass
artist by providing a place to meet other artists, share
information, and encourage each other. Each also offers unique
opportunities to show and sell my work, inspiring me to seek new
venues, expand my creative expression, and share my love of glass.
